Our carefully designed course programmes are given by our professional coaches and industry experts. A Programme Leader is responsible for delivering the main body of each course with specialist experts providing the financial and health modules.

Programme Leaders

Joe McDermott
Joe McDermott
Joe – a former teacher for 30 years – is now involved in mental and physical health and fitness for the over sixties. He does this through developing and encouraging various hiking and cycling activities as well as Book Club and Genealogy Research courses. He holds a Masters Degree in Arts and a Higher Diploma in Education. Based in Newport, Co Mayo Joe is responsible for delivering the Retirement Planning Council courses in the West of Ireland. Joe has been working with the Retirement Planning Council since 2008.
Don Morrissy
Don Morrissy
Don is a Fellow of the Irish Institute of Pensions Managers and is experienced in the pensions industry. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from U.C.C and a Diploma in Philosophy in U.C.C. He also possesses a FETAC 6 Train the Trainer Certificate. Don is responsible for delivering the Retirement Planning Council course the Munster region and has been working with the Retirement Planning Council since 2003.

Pauline was responsible for the development and delivery of training courses and co-ordinated the post-retirement programme for Teagasc retirees. She is a graduate of the Dublin Business School and holds a Diploma in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations and Sales Management. She is also an accredited mediation practitioner. Pauline has been working as a course consultant with the Retirement Planning Council since 2009.
Donal O'Siocháin
Donal O'Siocháin
Donal has worked as a course consultant with the Retirement Planning Council since 2008 and holds a Fetac 6 Train the Trainer Certificate. Previously Donal was an airline pilot with Aer Lingus and served on the board of directors of Aer Lingus for a number of years. He has fostered a special interest in our inland waterways and served as president of the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland.
Declan J Lawlor
Declan J Lawlor
Declan has held a number of senior positions in the Financial Services industry, mainly in the areas of retirement planning and financial planning. He is a former Chairman of the Irish Institute of Pensions Management. Declan is a Fellow of the Irish Institute of Pensions Management, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and also hold a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Dublin City University Business School. He has been a regular speaker on retirement and financial planning issues to a wide variety of professional organisations.
Paul Kenny
Paul Kenny
Paul Kenny spent more than 34 years in the pensions industry before being appointed as Ireland’s first Pensions Ombudsman in 2003. He retired from that position in May 2016. Paul was a founder Fellow of the Irish Institute of Pensions Management, and a Director for ten years of the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland and its Chairman for three years. He has written and lectured extensively on pensions and related matters and holds a Level 7 Certificate in Training and Continuing Education from NUI Maynooth.

John Leonard
John graduated from Dublin City University with a degree in Accountancy and Finance and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants. John specialises in investment appraisal and strategic decision-making and has held senior management positions with some “Top 100” European companies. He has lectured on both “Financial Management” and “Taxation” for the A.C.C.A professional accountancy exams. John also holds a FETAC 6 training qualification. John has worked since 2008 with the Retirement Planning Council delivering the financial and taxation course modules.

Since 2006 Fiona Finnerty has been a Taxation Consultant having trained in taxation with KPMG and worked as a Corporate tax manager before moving to DHKN. Fiona has lectured in corporation tax for the Institute of Taxation and has been working with the Retirement Planning Council for since 2008.
Catherine Desmond

Catherine is a Senior Tax Manager with responsibility for the HR Services Group in PricewaterhouseCoopers in Cork. Catherine has over twelve years’ experience in advising on employment and personal taxation issues. Catherine has been involved in a number of Revenue audits involving a variety of indigenous and multinational clients. Catherine is a lecturer with the Irish Tax Institute and lectures on their professional qualification programme. Catherine has contributed to a number of Irish Tax Institute publications.
Tom Collins
Tom Collins
Tom Collins lectures in International Tax and Advanced Tax in the B.A. (Hons.) in Applied Taxation and in Wealth management in the M Sc Computational Finance) at the National Centre for Taxation Studies, University of Limerick. Tom has over 25 years experience with Big 4 tax practices in Ireland and New Zealand. He has worked as a consultant with the Retirement Planning Council since 2008.

Gabriel is a Qualified Financial Advisor with over 30 years experience within the financial services industry. Gabriel specialises in offering bespoke solutions to suit individual circumstances. He has been working with the Retirement Planning Council since 2011 delivering the financial module of the course.
Hugh Johnson
Hugh Johnson
Hugh has worked for over 30 years in the banking / financial sector – 15 of which were in the area of Wealth Management. This culminated in his role as Head of Client Relations, South & West, with Bank of Ireland Private Banking. Hugh is a qualified Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Qualified Financial Advisor (QFA) and a member of The Institute of Bankers in Ireland, holding a Diploma in Wealth Management. He has advised both Corporate and Personal Clients, on the full range of Retirement Planning, Portfolio Management, Protection together with matters pertaining to Tax and Estate Planning.

Sarah Keogh
Sarah Keogh
Sarah Keogh, MSc., BSc, M.I.N.D.I., has a degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from Trinity College. She has worked in hospitals both in Ireland and the UK and is the former Head of Nutrition at the Bon Secours Hospital in Dublin. Sarah specialises in giving advice on nutrition and diet and has worked with some of Ireland’s leading food companies. Sarah writes for Easyparenting Magazine and is a regular on TV3’s “The Morning Show”. Sarah has worked with the Retirement Planning Council since 2006, delivering the Healthy Lifestyle course modules.

Aisling holds a Bsc hons in Home Economics, PGDip Nutrition and Dietetics, PGCert in Sport and Exercise nutrition and FAETC.  She has been qualified as a clinical dietitian for 20 years and had wored in a variety of hospitals in the UK and Ireland. Aisling has a special interest and qualification in Adult Education and has an ongoing passion and interest in nutrition and exercise for the “Third Age”. Aisling has worked with the Retirement Planning Council since 2008 .

Niamh O’Connor RD, BSc (Hons), Dip (Hons), MINDI is an honours graduate of Trinity College and Dublin Institute of Technology. Having completed her internship at St. James Hospital Dublin and Cork University Hospital, she has practised as a dietitian & nutritionist in Ireland since 1993. Her career to date includes senior dietitian positions in teaching hospitals throughout the country, research nutrition post with the Irish Universities Nutrition Alliance, and lecturing. Her specialist interests include gastroenterology, paediatrics and EU food labelling legislation. Niamh is an active member of the Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute (INDI), the professional body for dietitians / clinical nutritionists in Ireland. She advocates for her patients and for her profession, and is a regular contributor to local and national radio, television, print media and social media on all things nutrition. Niamh has worked with the Retirement Planning Council since 2012.
Caoimhe McDonald

Caoimhe graduated from Trinity College with a degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. She is a nutrition consultant to several clinics and has worked as a research dietician in the Osteoporosis Clinic in St James Hospital Dublin. She is currently a dietician in St Mary’s Nursing Home and Caoimhe is a member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetics Institute. She has worked with the Retirement Planning Council since 2011.

David is a GP in Limerick who has been a representative on the Mid-Western GP Unit for the past six years. He is Chairman of the Primary Care Subcommittee of the Secondary Cardiovascular Prevention Programme in the Mid-West Region – a committee representing a wide variety of stakeholders including Mid-Western Health Board, Health Promotion Unit, Dieticians, Public Health Nurses, Ambulance Services, Voluntary Groups.
