Dr. Kevin Smyth is a highly accomplished public service leader with over 30 years' experience, holding senior executive roles in government and continuing to contribute to public and sporting governance following his retirement from the Civil Service in 2022.
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades in the Irish public service and governance sectors, Kevin holds a BA in Public Administration from NUI, an MSc in Economics (Policy Analysis) from Trinity College Dublin, and a Doctorate in Governance from Queen's University Belfast.
Following early roles with Ulster Bank, the Central Statistics Office, the Land Commission, and several Government Departments, including Finance and Defence, Kevin joined the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in 1993, progressing through senior leadership positions including Assistant Principal, Chief Economist, and Assistant Secretary General and Chief Financial Officer. Since retiring from the Civil Service in May 2022, Kevin has continued to contribute extensively to public and sporting governance as Director of Horse Sport Ireland and Chair of the Audit Committee of the Public Appointments Service.
